Get to Know Me
Hey there, I’m Yvonne, the founder of Rebelology Institute—and your biggest fan in the pursuit of healing and wholeness. If you’re here, it means you’re ready to do the work, and I’m honored to walk this journey with you.
A little about me: I fell in love with the human mind while earning my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the one and only Spelman College (yes, I’m a Spelmanite, and yes, I still wear my school colors with pride). From there, I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University, where I sharpened my skills in understanding the complexities of relationships. These days, I’m knee-deep in textbooks and research, working toward my PhD in Counseling Psychology from National University because the work of learning and growing never stops.

But let’s keep it real—I’m not just a therapist; I’m also a wife, a mama to a beautifully smart little girl, and the unapologetic servant of our spoiled dog, Rebel (yes, he runs the house). When I’m not helping clients untangle life’s messes, you’ll probably find me writing poetry, reading anything from self-help to Toni Morrison, or getting way too excited about a new set of planner stickers. Type A? Absolutely. But hey, someone’s gotta keep the world organized.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m passionate about activism and working within my community to dismantle stigma—especially around mental health in Black and Brown spaces. I’ve been known to spark deep conversations with strangers in the checkout line, and I genuinely believe that healing can ripple through every part of our lives when we’re brave enough to face our truths.
I created Rebelology Institute as a space where people—particularly African-American women—can come to feel seen, heard, and celebrated. I know what it’s like to be the “strong one,” to carry the weight of expectations, and to put yourself last. That’s why I’m here: to help you reclaim your voice, set boundaries that honor your worth, and build the life you deserve.
So whether you’re a planner addict like me, someone who thrives in chaos, or somewhere in between, welcome. You’re in the right place, and I can’t wait to help you write your next chapter.
Let’s get to work.
My Story
I’ve always had a heart for service—it runs deep in my veins. Growing up as the child of a military parent and a parent who worked for the federal government, I learned early on what it meant to lead with discipline, resilience, and purpose. But let me tell you, it wasn’t always smooth sailing.

In high school, I stayed busy with community engagement programs like the Urban League, voter registration drives, and anything else that allowed me to use my voice for change. Between playing sports and singing my heart out in choir (a passion that followed me all the way to college), I kept a full plate—and then some.

Before college I worked in fast food like most people do as a teenager. I also was able to work in the medical field as a Nurse Assistant, leaning into my love of caring for people. During college, I stepped into corporate America, working in the financial and insurance industries for over 15 years. But underneath all of that drive and dedication, I was carrying the heavy weight of perfectionism, navigating racism, and silently battling the complex traumas that shaped my world.

I didn’t realize it then, but I was living with undiagnosed PTSD. The stress and pressure to be “strong” and push through nearly broke me. But, sis, that’s where my story takes a turn. I decided to stop surviving and start healing—and now I’m here to help you do the same.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying too much, you’re not alone. I’ve been there. And I want you to know that it’s okay to put the weight down and give yourself the care you so freely give to others. Let’s rewrite the narrative—together.

What's in a Name?
Rebelology Institute is more than just a name—it’s a vibe, a mission, and a movement. It’s about rebelling against the notion that we have to be strong all the time, perfect all the time, or anyone other than who we truly are. It’s about the science (-ology) of breaking cycles, healing wounds, and rewriting your story with boldness and intention.

So yes, we’re rebels—rebels for rest, healing, and unapologetic joy. And we’re here to teach you how to be one, too.

What You Can Expect from Me
When you work with me, you’re not just getting a therapist—you’re getting a partner in your healing journey. I show up fully, with authenticity, compassion, and a little bit of tough love when you need it. You can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space where you’ll feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.

I’ll challenge you to dig deep, celebrate your wins—big or small—and equip you with tools that actually work in real life. Together, we’ll unpack the heavy stuff, rewrite those limiting narratives, and create a game plan for the life you deserve.
I bring my expertise, lived experience, and a good dose of humor (because healing doesn’t have to be stiff or boring). You bring your truth. Let’s get to work!
